History of the Traveling Catholic’s Mass Mob

Annamarie Barnes read about Mass Mobs in Buffalo, NY. She felt this was something she could do to help the church she attended growing up. Annamarie began making an effort to organize with the goal of aiding struggling Catholic Churches.

In early 2014 Annamarie organized the very first Detroit Mass Mob, which was held at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church in April 2014. In 2014 she had a joyful experience meeting new friends and seeing amazing historical architecture. Annamarie found inspiration from experiencing her faith in a new way by traveling to varying churches throughout Detroit…earning the nickname “The Traveling Catholic”.

In 2015 Annamarie refocused efforts, using her time and talents to return to working toward her vision of aiding churches that are struggling. The beauty of a church is not found in the architecture, glass and adornments alone. There is beauty in the small, in the simple, and in quiet struggle. There is beauty and inspiration in parishes fighting to remain open. There is love in parishes fighting to serve their community through service and charity. There is beauty in helping one another!

Please join Annamarie in this joyful journey!
